The Call-back

First Things

Bottlecap Press, 2026

We experience call-backs all the time, though we may not recognize them. The world in many ways requests a return, or an answer. The concept behind these poems was born while on a hike....These poems are my questions for the world. Consider them an invocation. They await their own call-back.

Perturbations

Perturbations

Alien Buddha Press, 2025

from the publisher "...explores the quiet spaces where grief lingers and insomnia takes hold. Through vivid imagery and a deep connection to the natural world, this collection captures the tension between what fades and what endures. Each poem examines the moments we overlook. Calhoun’s words are grounded yet expansive, finding meaning in the smallest details and the largest questions. A poignant meditation on life’s fragility. Perturbations offers a window into a world where even the smallest disturbances carry profound meaning."

Follow This Creek

Follow This Creek

Foothills Publishing, 2007

My debut chapbook of poems, most poems center around explorations in the natural world. I view language and words as I do nature, places to play in, places to explore. The way words roll across a page or off a tongue is as important as water moving over rock. I have a great connection to the natural world, as writer and photographer. The immediate experiences of my travels and minutiae of encounters inform my writing, being both recorder and storyteller.
